Sarai’s Story

My name is Sarai. I am halfway done with my sixth grade year and I ask God to help me and give me the intelligence to continue studying in high school where I will have new goals and challenges. Even though I know it will be difficult, I’m ready to give it my all.

I attend the Brethren in Christ church that is adjacent to my school. My family loves music. My dad plays piano and my little sister and I like to sing. I also like to be the worship leader at church and recite poems. Someday I want to be a teacher.

The rest are private and you have to pay a lot of money to study. I was scared that I would fail the admissions exam and my parents would not be able to support me.

The school where I work is called Rayito del Sol. It is not located in the best neighborhood; many parents earn less than $2 a day and have low expectations for their children’s success. But I expect a lot of my students because that is what my teachers expected of me.
