Holy Land Institute for the Deaf (HLID) in Salt, Jordan, opened in 1964. Since then, it has worked to meet some of the great needs throughout the Middle East. The deafblind unit started in 2001, with housing available to boarding students since 2010. With enough staff for individual student-teacher interactions, the institute aims to provide services that empower, educate and enhance the lives of individuals who are deafblind. Through fostering communication and encouraging independence, the lives of the students and staff are enriched.
Global Family funds support further training for these staff and operating costs of the deafblind program.
